I’m always on the fence when it comes to writing variant dialects. Like Southern drawls, or as seen above, urban street slang. You want the dialog to ring true, but you don’t want it to come across overdone, or worse, offensive. But as I’ve said before, I want to stay true to the characters. So as much as Mr. Praglin won’t be calling anyone “dude” anytime soon, Bonez won’t likely enunciate with erudition. Not yet, anyway.

Also, I was watching a LOT of The Wire when I was originally writing this strip. So, um, blame David Simon.
